Q: Isn’t there a rule that when you are pale in winter you should wear dark colours?

A: It is a fashion myth that when the season changes, the colours that suit you will also magically change. Your tan may fade, but the essence of your colouring does not. The reason people may believe this is because they have been getting away with wearing the wrong colours when they had their summer tans and now without the tan these colours make them look washed out. The truth is that you can wear lighter colours any time of year, as long as they are the right ones for your colour type. That said, dark-haired people with dark eyes may still prefer wearing the darker shades because they look particularly good in them. Who then, should not be heading the dark route? If you are a light-haired individual, being paler gives you even more reason to stick to the light colours that suit you. Striking white-blondes are the exempt from this category. If you have blonde hair, especially Californian or golden blonde, switching to black, dark brown, and heavy dark reds or greens, will age and drain you. Who needs that?!  Lighter reds, pinks, peach, apricots, periwinkle blue, powder blue, and light or bright navy are better colour options for you. Pare these with, medium to light beiges, soft whites and ivory. You can make a real fashion statement without wearing black and the good news is, the pastel colours are particularly on trend for winter at the moment.

Dare to be different – and be envied!
